I’m April Donnelly, and I started The Don Hair with a simple mission: to create custom hair designs that are as natural-looking and transformative as they are high-quality.
From a young age, I’ve been fascinated by the power of hair to not only change someone’s appearance but to boost their confidence and help them express their true selves.
What started as a passion for hairstyling grew into a journey of perfecting my craft and offering something beyond just hair—I wanted to create an experience.
When I first ventured into the wig industry, I quickly saw a significant gap: while wigs had been a staple in South Africa for years, there was a need for a more natural, hyper-realistic look, combined with the right level of expertise to make them truly shine. I knew I wanted to offer more than just a product—I wanted to provide an experience that connects deeply with each person, making them feel confident and empowered, no matter who they are or where they come from.
I spent nearly five years researching and sourcing the right quality of hair—hair that aligns with the values of my brand: longevity, quality, and the kind of natural beauty that clients would love to wear every day.
The journey wasn’t easy, but it was worth it. I wanted to ensure that the hair I work with not only looks incredible but also lasts, making it just as enjoyable to care for at home as it is to wear out of the salon.
Through my unwavering commitment to excellence and my personalised approach to every client, I’ve built a loyal customer base that’s grown solely through word of mouth.
My dedication has attracted some of South Africa’s most influential names, including Bonang Matheba, Pabi Cooper, Uncle Waffles, Tyla, Tems, as well as production credits with Netflix, Glamour Magazine, Miss South Africa, and Steve Madden.
As The Don Hair continues to grow, I’m excited to expand our team, one stylist at a time.
